Car affordability calculator: the most car your income supports

Enter your gross income, the share of it you're willing to spend on a car each month, other monthly car costs you want inside that limit (like insurance), your down payment, the APR and the loan length. See the highest price that fits, the payment, the down payment and the interest. The defaults are the 20/4/10 rule.

How it works

Your monthly car budget is your gross income times the percentage ÷ 12. Other costs you count inside it (insurance, fuel) are taken off, and what is left is the most the loan payment can be. The calculator finds the highest whole-dollar price whose payment on the financed part (price minus the down payment) fits, using the standard loan formula rounded to the cent. Interest is added up month by month. Sales tax, registration and dealer fees are not included. Tables by income: how much car can I afford.
