Moving cost calculator: compare mover quotes and the cash you need

Put hourly and flat mover quotes on the same total (fees, packing, valuation and tip included), add your other moving costs, deposits and overlapping rent, and see the cash you need around moving day and the net cost once your old deposit comes back.

Labor = rate × hours for hourly quotes, or the flat price. Tip = a % of labor. Fees, packing and valuation coverage are added to both. Cheapest isn't always best: check reviews and what the valuation coverage actually pays.

How it works

Hourly and flat quotes aren't comparable until everything is on them. Labor is the hourly rate times the estimated hours (ask for the minimum too), or the flat price. Fees, packing and valuation coverage are added, and the tip is a percentage of the labor. The cash you need around moving day is the cheapest total plus your other moving costs, the new security deposit and any rent you pay for both places; the old deposit usually comes back weeks later, so it only lowers the net cost. The spreadsheet adds an 80-line cost list, a chosen mover and what's been paid.
