How it works
A sinking fund spreads a known future bill (Christmas, an insurance premium, a vacation) over the months until it is due. For each fund, what is still needed is the goal minus what you have saved, and the monthly amount is that divided by the calendar months left, counting from this month to the due month. Add the funds together and you have one monthly transfer that covers every irregular bill on time.
