3-paycheck months in 2027: which months, and why 2027 has 27 paydays for some

If you're paid every two weeks, two months a year usually bring a third paycheck, and some years bring three. Budgeting from monthly bills, those extra checks are money nothing is waiting for. Here's where they fall in 2027 for Friday paydays, generated with the same payday rules as our paycheck budget planner.

Biweekly on Fridays: find your cycle

There are only two biweekly Friday cycles. If you're paid on Friday, January 1, 2027 (and every other Friday after), you're on the first; if you're paid on Friday, January 8, you're on the second.

2027 starts on a Friday, so the first cycle fits 27 paydays into the year instead of the usual 26. If your employer divides an annual salary by 26, each check stays the same and the year's pay is simply higher; some employers divide by 27 in such years instead, which makes each check smaller. It's worth asking HR which applies.

January 1 is a holiday, so payroll may move that payday to December 31, 2026. In that case the first cycle has 26 paydays in 2027 and January has two.

Weekly on Fridays

2027 has 53 Fridays. Weekly Friday pay brings five paychecks in January, April, July, October and December.

Using the extra checks

1. Budget your monthly bills on two paychecks a month (four for weekly pay).
2. Decide now what each extra check is for: an emergency fund, an extra debt payment, a sinking fund for a yearly bill.
