How much Etsy takes depends on the price, because one fee is fixed (/bin/bash.25 per order for payment processing, plus the /bin/bash.20 listing fee) and the rest are percentages. Here's the total at common prices for a US shop, with no shipping and no sales tax. Use the Etsy fee calculator for your exact numbers.

Fees = /bin/bash.20 listing + 6.5% transaction + 3% + /bin/bash.25 processing (+ 15% Offsite Ads, capped at 00, when the order came from an ad). Each fee is rounded to the cent, as Etsy does. Your own costs (materials, packaging, postage) come out of "you keep".
What the table shows
- Cheap items lose a bigger share. On a item the fixed /bin/bash.45 alone is 9% of the price; total fees are 18.6%. At 00 they're about 10%.
- Offsite Ads roughly double the bite on anything under about 67, where the 00 cap starts to apply.
- Shipping and sales tax raise fees too: the transaction fee is charged on shipping, and processing on shipping and sales tax. See the worked examples.
